So grateful to @bmada for winning us tickets to one of @AzizAnsari’s secret shows! He worked out new material for about 70 minutes and was hilarious. I’m not usually that into seeing stand-up comedy live, but watching somebody this big while sitting 15 feet from the mic was pretty exciting!

One funny SF-specific moment was when, in response to a question, an audience member told a story about a creepy dude doing something disgusting on the bus. “It was the 38,” she explained, and everyone responded with, “OOOHHhhhhhh.” Aziz turns to the audience, looking shocked. “WTF? WTF is happening on this bus that THAT explains it?” Aziz, next time you’re in SF, I offer to be your tour guide as we take the 38. Trust me, you will understand.

Across from the dog park is a brand-new skate park! I hail from the place where skateboarding was born, so I have no choice but to give this an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

I finally got over to see the new SOMA West Dog Park, under the freeway near Zeitgeist. It’s too bad it’s not bigger, but it’s a great way to utilize this previously-unused space — and given that SF is dealing with a crisis of far too few per-capita dog parks, this is a welcome addition.

I finally had lunch at Split Bread in the Metreon, owned by the Mixt Greens folks. It was fine and I’m glad they offered my favorite MG salad (the Be Well), but they don’t stock tofu for a salad topping! What the heck? I need my protein! Still, great to take it over to Yerba Buena Gardens and eat lunch outside on a nice day.

People get VERY excited about Gravenstein apples, because they are rare and local, and have a very short season. But they’re available now! From our friend at the Fruit Guys: “Delicious sweet-tart Gravensteins are a much beloved apple grown primarily in Northern California’s Sonoma County and available only about 2 weeks every summer due to a short growing season. Great for pies, juice, sauce, and eating out of hand!”

Miraloma Park — Catherine Sky

I just wanted to share the word that one of my neighbors has open gallery hours this weekend for a series of paintings of the Miraloma Park neighborhood and environs. A bunch more images at the link above!
